As you can verify by the table, my friend, this terrible problem affects us here in Portugal a lot. Every time, the temperature rises, there is fire in different places. Most of the fires are of criminal origine, due to the human obtuseness!! Great and significant post, deserving this FP!!

Great post! Very interesting point! We have to stop this wave of fires and act properly to avoid such devastating fires! Here in Portugal the problem is the same! (and it's well documented in your table!)

You have absolutely right, this had to be done many years and centuries ago...I hope that it is not too late...what we have to do now is to truly respect ourselves...and ourselves are 100% part of nature!

You make my hair stand on end! How right you are. I think about how many lifes we destroy... All those animals and plants, doomed for generations. The most terrifying of all is that almost all fires are our fault, and lots of them are arson attacks. Not just by mistake, for not to be careful. Not just by the actions of arsonists. Not just because we don't maintain our fields and forests cleared, avoiding the heat becomes fire. It's also because there aren't enough firefighters: some of them are recruited all the year long, but some others are reservers paid only when there is fire and they work... So, many times, reservers cause fires to work and be paid. This wouldn't happen if they were on the staff. Moreover, a large number of fires are started by people paid by businesses or individuals who want to buy a land cheapest or a land where they cannot build because it is protected by its natural value. If law prohibits build in any burned land during one hundred years, these people wouldn't have reasons to cause the fire. I agree with you: Earth is not going to endure our actions much longer. It's needed to protect Nature right now.
