To B&W or not to B&W

2006.12.09

Denisesouth had a great comparison shot of color and B&W. I have the same dilemma. I like the B&W and my wife likes the color...what do you think?

aggiechristine This is tough! The colors are stunning, but the black and white version wins (for me) by a very narrow margin because it focuses my eyes on the details (rich textures and strong lines).

NovyMir tricky choice, each gradient reveals a little something different. my penny is on the color photograph though. It looks like a realist postcard.

rcharris Yes and no!.....But I go for the colour....great shot!

Najeli I can hardly say... Both are very good. I love B&W pictures.. But the first one is for me too homogeneous (almost without a border between the sky and the roof). Although... the structure of the building is interesting. The second picture has very nice contrast and composition of colors.

vollenda I think the b&w one makes the sign pop and become a focus. But I would have to go for the color one because the colors in it are so saturated.

openbelarus colored is better i think. anotherway, it is difficult to receive a pleasure looking at the deep blue sky

clementine nice photos! i like the coloured better because of the deep rich colours.

Overexposed Colour...... the sky in the B&W does nothing for the picture.

jjimson I say B&W. That somehow pops right at you.

matheusgr Hi, mugsycat.

I´m kinda new to photography, but so far I´ve found out that some pictures ask for B/W, at least mine do. Same for Sepia toning....

In my humble opinion, an Antique&Flea Market conveys an idea of past times, calling for B/W.

Just a thought! ;-)

Both pics are good!!!

Cheers.
