Winter break

2009.02.08

Here you can see the lanterns that were lit for each casualty of the massacre. This tragedy is considered by many to be the largest mass murder in Michigan's history.

This is the archway from the Italian Hall building, which was demolished in the 1980s.

Here is a list of the casualties; many Finnish-Americans died in the tragedy.

I haven't posted in a while so I thought I would put up some photos from my Christmas vacation to Michigan.

One photo is the dock at one of our favorite summer spots (during winter, obviously). The other four photographs are of the Italian Hall Massacre Memorial Service. They used to always have the memorial on Christmas Eve, but stopped for many years. This is the first year that they started having the memorial service again. There was a lantern lit for every victim. My family was at the Italian Hall Massacre, but none of them were killed. Some of our relatives through marriage, however, are listed among the casualties.
