Indian Paintbrush

2007.04.28

"The Indian-paint-brush quaintly blooming,
So shyly blooming, we love, Wyoming, --
O'er piney ridge and barren crest
And rugged vale, we call the West."

P. B. Coolidge, Lander pioneer

The Indian paintbrush is the Wyoming state flower, and has always been one of my favorites. I took this photo in Red Canyon this afternoon, the first Indian paintbrush of the year. Be sure to enlarge for best view.
