Mural

I grew up on the Wind River Indian Reservation in central Wyoming, and attended the Arapahoe School through the 8th grade (at which time I was bused to town - 10 miles away - for high school). Once I left the school, I don't think I ever went back, even for a visit - and we're talking over 30 years here.

Today I traveled to the Arapahoe School for a meeting - imagine the nostalgia I felt when I saw the tile mural (pictured above) for the first time in decades. I had forgotten it even existed, but once I saw it I was 10 years old again.

I learned they are going to be tearing this building down within the next two years to construct a better school. They plan to save this mural and install it in the new school - I sure hope they do.

How very cool. I hope they save it, too.

It's really weird for me to visit places I lived as a child. I am overwhelmed by nostalgia, but at the same time I feel a strange disconnect, like it was really all a dream.

Its a lovely mural. I'm glad that someone has the good sense to save the mural. I had a similar experience to dweiskir when I went back to my childhood neighborhood. Thanks for sharing the mural and words.

Wow - it must have felt very strange revisiting. I remember visiting my childhood neigbourhood after about 30 years and being so surprised how close the school was to where we lived - my recollections were of having walked miles and miles to school.

An interesting place where you grew up - great mural!

WOw such a wonderful looking mural.. I sure hope they save it. it still looks like it is in great shape!! Oh to be 10 again bubble gum in my hair mud on my barefeet and letting popsicle juice run down my arm all the way to my elbow!! Oh the good old days!! :)
