Crossing the Green River

Many American pioneers in the 19th century crossed the Green River on their way to settle Utah, California or Oregon. While Utah is close to this spot (in relative terms), those intrepid folks seeking Oregon or California were only about halfway there by the time they got this far (months into their journey).

Though crossing the Green had its perils, most emigrants were happy to see the cool water and lush cottonwood groves with grass for their hungry animals, firewood instead of buffalo chips, and the chance to camp under trees - a rare opportunity in Western Wyoming.
