Smoke over Samokov... again and again...

2007.11.23

Thank you all for your comments and thoughts. Each time I hope, I hope for a bit cleaner air, for a possibility to breath...

I agree these people are poor. Well, who is poor in Bulgaria, where the minimal salary is 100 eu and a master degree holder earns at average 250 eu in Sofia? Sofia is the capital...

So, will you agree that because someone is poor s/he should be allowed to broke the lows? No. At least I think so. And what I am sure about is that there isn't such rule in any of the European countries at least: 'if one is poor s/he could do anything..." No, don't make me a fool!

The lows here clearly state:
no tires burning, except when it is that special sort of place... !
no garbage dumping in the towns!
It also says who could transport it and so on and so forth... Why do we pay for the Parliament to develop lows, if we don't need them? How to be sure we need these lows, when no one respects them?

Would you come and live here? As my neighbours?
When your honest answer is 'yes', only then I will agree - you can say "...so poor people...", but I will never say this.

There is a low and it is one for all of us. And we all must be equally responsible to respect the low of this country,. If someone isn't agree - there are legal options for change: lobbying at the Parliament, leaving the country etc, etc... but why most of the people choose not to care anything?

***
I see the smiles
I see the friendship
I see - there is team spirit...
But why these children and youth
live their life in the garbage?

Naomi Lyth these are great photos. i have never been to samokov but i get a feel from these photos that the place is hard. if only there was another solution.

DancingDolphin The fact that this is YOUR neighborhood certainly gives weight to your opinion that poor is not an excuse. Maybe it is time to start talking to the people with the carts about health issues?

????? Poor is definitely NOT an excuse for living in dirt - but IT IS THE FACT all around the world. Poor people -- by and large, although not all--just do not care about personal hygiene or a clean environment. I don't know if sociologists can explain the reasons for (Mazlow's hyerarchy and all that) but I believe old clothes can be mended, and the house can be swept and a wash basin and a little water can always be found for cleanliness. I guess it should start in schools and churches, where teachers and clergy people who truly CARE about the welfare of their fellow human beings can instill some common sense in them. I wish you well - and I future the future will be brighter for you and your little town.

Mira Hristova This is Bulgaria!!! This picture is all around in our lovely country. We have to do something finally. I mean WE - everybody, everywhere and first of all - THE BULGARIAN LAW SYSTEM. Unfortunately, nobody to abide by the rules and that is our tragedy. But it's time to change!

giodinu I agree with your words and thoughts.
I live in Campania (italy) and sometimes here we have big problems with big amount of garbage...so I can partially understand your mood.

Mira Hristova And I forgot to write - most of these people aren't so much poor. Most of them, themselves made that life-choice.

dannielle i can see why you are upset. its terrible when the law fails. but i do believe that being poor does not justify acting like pigs. i wish there was some answer that would make your part of the world better. but dont think you are alone--this happens everywhere in this world.
