This time... even the Police didn't come after I've called. Tires burning.... seems this doesn't matter. Human rights and freedom?! What is this?!
The story of the site...
It was a toys' factory called "Liubcho Baramov". After 1989, the new era was here. Everything quickly become private, so did the toys factory. Day after day the machines were sold and the property deserted. Day after day everything (three floors! main building and several others) was ruined - do the materials and the metal in the construction...
Here we are now!
The owners are missing. Some of them businessmen, another one a previous Parliament member.... People who are far away and didn't care about this property at all since mid 1990s! Are they still owners then?
The waste policy here - extremely weak: whole quarters are left without any waste services.
Poor people earn some money by throwing other people's rubbish here. Other - by burning tires and selling the metal (oh, this metal!) in them....
Municipality says they have nothing to do. (Sure!?!) But they promise - will write another letter to the owners... and clean the site.... (!?) Is it illegal waste dumping then?
What about our rights?! OK, everyone have rights, but do we, who live in this quarter?!
How many years in smoke and waste should pass, before someone start to care!? How many letters should I write? How many times the health, environmental and local authorities will 'pass the ball' in between?
I have no any answers. What do YOU think?
Asking 'Where is this?"
- this is Samokov, a town 60km away from the Bulgarian capital Sofia. This is in Europe!!!
