Thank you! You are right, not good for our health here. These are old shots, but I just attached them to my letter #2 to the Samokov Mayor. I've sent them a link to our this page - this way they could have a real idea of what is going on in my part of Samokov.

Burning tyres is just not acceptable. Not in any case, as it's highly toxic for the environment as well as people! I do hope your politicians are reasonnable and caring people and will look for it!

If the Mayor doesn't see how much this is effecting people and our environment after this post - then it's clear he's just ignoring the issue and your basic human right to a clean city neighborhood. It's absolutely awful that it's taking you months and months of hard work and complaints for something that should have never been a problem in the first place. Dumping trash illegally and burning things like tires is a very serious problem and should not be be taken lightly or ignored like it has been. I sincerely hope the Mayor takes action immediately. You have been very persistent and have great documentation of these atrocious events that take place right outside your house. You are doing a great job creating awareness - keep up the fight!

It's crazy that you are subjected to this kind of abuse by your local government. They should enforce the laws and if it's too much for them they should ask for help from a higher authority. Keep fighting for your life.

What does the mayor, or his council get from allowing this to continue? It begs the question "who benefits, and why?" There is no smoke without fire, whether it is on waste ground or in politics. This is happening because it is being allowed to happen, and probably

Why can't the Mayor of Samokov should show some leadership and regenerate this area. The ground gets cleared up, the fires stop and the poor given the chance of useful and dignified work. You are in Europe now and there are probably directives concerning smoke pollution and grants to help. I wish you well in your efforts to make your environment more pleasant which, surely must be a basic human right.

I hope your complaint will make some changes... It's daft, that some people do everything they can to save environment, even little things like unplugging things that are in standby mode (they consume tiny bit of energy), and other just can't be bothered :/ I wonder, how many hours "standby" device does it take, to do same harm as one burned tire ? ...

i fully support your action which you have done so consequently by documenting the dump in your neighborhood in your photoblog. you show a lot of braveness and i wish that your authorities will finally react accordingly - and put an end to this uncontrolled dumping of trash.

It is downright outrageous that there is no enforcement or crackdown in open burning of tyres particularly so in a EU nation. People's lives and health are at stake not to mention the environmental aftermath! This is a disgrace Mr Mayor! Get your act together and help your people!

This really is disgraceful! It could not happen here (England) as you need a planning permit to do this. I wish you all best in your struggle and hope the mayor supports you - and sees reason.

Hello! You are very brave and I admire your fight because I cannot understand why they kill the people slowly, it is an atrocious death which waits for the population: respiratory problems, problems of sight, of skin, etc.... Why are the authorities so irresponsible? Where are they? Where are their families? Do they undergo the same fate of the population? Thanks for sharing....

Mr. Mayor of Samokov, You have a great position and a great opportunity to show leadership. You can clean up Samokov dramatically by banning these illegal fires. We had a lot of air pollution too in Nova Scotia Canada but now we are known as one of the cleanest places in earth. Other countries come to us to learn how we did it. Nova Scotia is a leader in the world on Recycling too. Maybe this is the answer for you. Why not check this information out to see if you could apply it to your city. If you did this you may attract other business people and technology to set up businesses in Samokov. Maybe even tourism. Can you imagine the good publicity you would get just from the Before and After photos. Why not have a meeting to do some Brainstorming on this topic on how to stop tires and trash from being burnt in the city and also what the benefits are to do so. Have a great day Mr. Mayor. Esther

I was in Samokov before Bulgaria joined the EU and it was a very pleasant town with clean air. To see what's happenning now is very discouriging to say the least. Aren't there any environmental guidlines that all the countries in EU have to follow? Maybe EU commisson on environment should be contacted. Lilliya do not give up, you as well as all in Samokov have a right to fresh unpoluted air.
