If You Could Fly

You say if you could fly, you would never come back down
That you would float, in cloudy coat
Above the earthen ground
You would stay up there forever, no need to question why
The reasons aren’t important
You say if you could fly

You say if you could fly, what a perfect life you’d hold
The bright blue sky would never die
You’d blaze a trail untold
You’d release your ambitions, with happy thoughts in mind
You’d start anew as you steadily flew

You say if you could fly, you’d leave your life behind
Your past mistakes would not partake
In your new life in the sky
There would be no rules or guidelines; there would be no fears or lies
You would surpass all expectations

But in the air, with no one there, the loneliness would rise
