HDR

Flowers waiting to show their faces. I didn't use HDR on these last two.

A promise of what's to come.

Today I decided to play with HDR rendering on photos of a sunrise cactus. I still haven't decided which I like better - the original, or HDR. I'd love to hear your opinions!

focussed originals grab me each time......so much more color..the HDR creates a little more detail in the leaves but mutes the color too much........although now that im looking back over them again, the softness in the edited shots is kind of nice..argg..i cant decide either..hehe

DancingDolphin I know NOTHING about HDR, but I'm wondering if HDR is what changed the intensity of the color? I actually prefer the originals for that reason.
DancingDolphin · 2008-03-27: 18:11
wagz98 Could you explain what hdr is? I really like the org b/c the color is so unique but the softness on the hdr is also great its tough to decide!

sendao Beautiful set , well done!

oldbabe I don't know much about photo editing either. Your pictures are so nice in the original form...why waste time on editing something that is already beautiful? (I think it looks like the HDR brought out more of the background and made foreground less colorful).

urmysunshine beautiful-simply beautiful!~ R

Peche You certainly get more textured detail in the HDR shots, but as focussed has pointed out and oldbabe too, the loss of colour seems to be the most noticeable thing. With the first two, I prefer the HDR - it has a dof that I don't think the original has as much because the colour dominates - but with the rest I really love the originals, especially the last two. The slight blur of focus in the last macro shot is genuis - very, very well done. :)
Overall, very interesting and very well executed set :)

GnatBytes I have the software for HDR, but have not played with it much. I have seen some photos, especially landscape scenes that really bring them to live and add depth. I am surprised your HDR's are actually lighter in color value. Did you bracket using 3 shots and the recommended f/stops?
GnatBytes · 2008-03-27: 19:46
CJLata very nice, great job, I am not familiar with HDR, but i love the affect.
CJLata · 2008-03-27: 20:51
dkelly i love the last shot. and this is a real pretty set.
dkelly · 2008-03-27: 20:55
KerBear These are great! The colour in the originals are incredible... so vibrant!! I think I like the originals best... but they are all fantastic!!
KerBear · 2008-03-27: 21:57
coyoteself WOW, most unusual. For a change, I like the originals more than HDR. Great photos!!
coyoteself · 2008-03-27: 22:13
coyoteself Oh, I see why...

Being that they're closeups. To me, HDR makes them look..."To busy," While the originals kept my focus on the wonderful pinks of the flower alone
coyoteself · 2008-03-27: 22:15
LostAspen I agree with Coyoteself. Plus the color in the originals is a little deeper. I never knew what those cactus were called! Thanks, I'm glad to have learned that today. :-)

kimauman I loved your cactus flower. I had taken some too on a previous post and they are a delight to photo due to there vibrant color. Number eight is really a work of art.

Lynda All lovely. These are great shots of a beautiful plant.
Lynda · 2008-03-28: 07:07
miclaud I prefer the real photos! Maybe because I like contrasts! But this post is beautiful!
miclaud · 2008-03-28: 09:51
Emma Beautiful colours and shots. I think overall I actually prefer the unedited shots...

LotoFoto Wow! Aren't you brave to fiddle with this concept. I've still been too afraid to even look up the definition lol!
These are beautiful. You've inspired me to look up the definition and possibly try something different.

TheCrazyCroat Beautiful shades of pink and green. The hdr one is awesome.
