Spring has sprung!

2008.04.01
Male cones on a young pine tree. Until today, I had no idea that there were male and female cones. The female cones are the wood-like brown ones that I'm more familiar with. The male cones are responsible for the yellow pollen that's everywhere this time of year.

I still have no idea what kind of tree this is. I hope to identify it when the leaves open.

This is why I want to k now what it is. It has the weirdest bark I've ever seen.

A hawk in flight. It wasn't until I downloaded the picture that I realized the opening in the clouds was shaped like a heart. :)

Vines twisted all over a tree that overlooks our creek.

Blueberries! At least, they will be blueberries.

A closer look at the blueberry flowers. We have two rabbiteye blueberry bushes, which is what these are. We also have five other bushes that are southern highbush varieties. The rabbiteyes will bloom first, followed by the others. This way blueberry season will last longer for us. It's great to walk outside and pick the berries for breakfast. :)

debbyfaye I love #4. The clouds are a gorgeous background for that shot. The tree with the vines looks creepy ;) to me. It's waiting to get you!

oldbabe Looks like you will have a few blueberries. Last photo is beautiful. Rabbits ate our blueberry bushes down to nothing this year, darn it.

Those male pine cones look like a bunch of immature corn cobs!

Leighann "walk outside and pick the berries for breakfast".

I hate you. I hate you with the fire of a thousand suns. :) (Apartment dweller and garden envier here)

#5 tugs my heartstrings. Only people who live in the southern climes deal with this. Vines that eat everything they climb upon. :)

TheCrazyCroat YAY! I can see, I can see! Beautiful photos. Love the blueberry blossoms. I don't think I've ever seen a blueberry bush. To pick fresh ones would be so wonderful!
