Peekaboo!

2008.05.04
More bluebird shots today, if you can stand them. I promise you'll be rewarded at the end of the post! :) Mr. Bluebird looks like he's about to be shot out of a cannon. (Instead, he was shot with a Canon! Ha!)

Another arrival. I love the way the feathers fan out.

Birds are just amazing to me - so graceful and acrobatic. Or is that aerobatic? I think this is my favorite in-flight photo so far.

Not really flying - just trying to maintain balance while hanging on to the opening. You'll see why in the next shot.

The babies are big enough now that they don't wait for the parents to enter the nest - they meet them at the door. :)

"But...but...wait! I want more food!"

Today was my first good look at the babies. It was so exciting!

It's a big, scary world out there, but you'll make your entrance soon enough.

I wonder how far they can see at this age, and if (s)he is just looking in my general direction, or actually sees me.

I'm thinking the babies will be leaving the nest any day now - probably while I'm at work. I just hope they hang around for a while after they fledge, so I can squeal over how cute they are. :)

Leighann You may fling Bluebirds at us until the cows come home. Very "squee" worthy.
An aside to ask advice from any of your birder friends, or yourself. Click on my link, and let me know what y'all think. I'm stumped.

LastFrontier I can definitely stand to see more of your bluebirds. You've definitely mastered the birds in flight, and oh! Look at that mouth and peering eyes. You've caught spectacular colors, even in motion. Well done!

gderuiter These are terrific! The little gaping beak is precious. I agree with your appreciation of the in-flight daddy, and I also really like the fanned out feathers as he clings to the birdhouse.

Madoc I posted birds' photos today to ( but mine are really not as cute as yours!!; )

Superb shots, especially the ones where the babies only show their litthe heads through the hole...
So much life in your yard!!!
