Woodland Critters

2008.05.07
This momma squirrel came out of the woods while I was sitting on the porch. She kept an eye on me, but as long as I didn't move, she wasn't too concerned. I was wondering if she was pregnant or had already given birth. I think it's the second option, for I've seen a lot of young squirrels around lately.

Action shot!

One of the youngsters I've seen lately. I love how white his belly is.

This youngster was playing with another one - running up and down the trees, leaping from trunk to trunk. It looked like a game of tag.

The other night I looked out the front window, and was surprised to see a bunny under the bird feeder. That in itself isn't so unusual, but we rarely see them this close to the house before the sun goes down.

I decided to see if I could sneak outside for a picture. She hopped away just to the edge of the woods, and stopped. She stayed absolutely motionless, in this pose, for several minutes.

I guess her back legs got tired, for she eventually sat down. I was able to walk quietly across the entire porch, and she stayed put. When I finally went inside, she was still sitting here.

Leighann My experience with our Body Shop Bunny over the last year has been that the bunny thinks that if (s)he holds perfectly still, it completely thinks that you can't see it. Probably the reason why this bunny was doing the statue imitation.
Wonderful squirrel photos. We have a ton of them around here, but they never hang around long enough for me to take a picture, the little wretches. :)

Peche Oh my goodness, Lissa!!! These shots are so wonderful!
I love squirrels but I have never seen one in real life... this is such a treat! :D I love #4 - so cheeky! That would have been so cute to witness.
Personally, I'm sure you know what I thought when I saw #5 & #6 - it's Mopsy! ;)
Great work. I'm so jealous of your backyard.

GnatBytes Now this too funny and ironic! My wife called me downstairs last evening because a rabbit (that looks just like yours) was under our bird feeder eating. I left my camera in the trunk and did not get a photo, but yours turned out great.
