Who Am I?

I was walking past the front window yesterday afternoon, when I noticed this bird sitting on the porch rail. It always grabs my attention when one perches there, because it doesn't happen very often.

At first I thought it might be an American Goldfinch, but then I realized it doesn't have the black bars on its wings. Maybe it's a juvenile goldfinch? It's possible, but it doesn't look like others I've seen. Also, the beak and the eyes look slightly different to me.

I'm thinking it might be a type of warbler or flycatcher, but I haven't been able to match it to any pictures I've found. I even have some birdwatching software on my computer, but haven't had any luck with it. I'm thinking it's a juvenile of some sort, which may be why it's difficult to identify.

Whatever it is, it sure looks sweet. :)

Update: Sheldon has identified it as a female summer tanager. After doing some Googling, I've confirmed it. Thanks, Sheldon!

lorinalynn The face looks similar to pics I've seen of yellow warblers, but their bodies look rounder. He's a cutie, though!

BreezyOnTheEyes it does look sweet! bird watching is totally crazy to me, i'm terrible at identifying them. i used to always whip out my father's binoculars and our two bird books that we had in the kitchen and try to figure out what was in our trees out back. i think i got as far as a chickadee and just made the rest up ~_^ good shots sista!

gderuiter I do think it's a Yellow Warbler -- and a juvenile or female. They are the only warblers with yellow undersides of their tails, which this one seems to have -- and the dark eye and lack of wing bars and other markings also speaks to this species. The breeding male has bright red streaks down his belly -- be on the lookout for him! He's gorgeous!
