Feathered friends - some new, some familiar
2009.08.02
This wren spent a lot of time checking out the pots on my deck. I've also seen one or two of them eating from my suet feeder - something they've never done before.

House finches. The one on the left is a juvenile; I'm not sure about the other one.

A new visitor to us, seen for the first time today. It appears to be a hooded warbler. Photo quality is not the best, as I only managed to snap four shots from my dining room window before it flew away.

Another recent visitor, a blue-grey gnatcatcher. We've seen several of them hanging around the veggie garden recently.

Great post, Lissa - you've become quite the bird expert from all these different visitors! :) I love the shot of the wren - great detail and light. And I've never seen a hummingbird in the wild - wow :)
Doesn't it just thrill you when new birds visit your yard? Believe it or not, I'd never had a pigeon in my back yard until this summer -- though they are everywhere in the city, of course. There was a stately pair that came every day at 1:30 for a few weeks, and this made me really happy.
