We spent part of the day down around the harbourfront in Halifax. Although it seemed like it was going to rain at any moment, we managed to travel around

This is Georges island (named for King George II.) It was part of the defence system for Halifax Harbour. You can read more about it here

There were many beautiful ships at the piers

This is the ship Cuauhtemoc, which is operated by the Mexican Navy. She is beautiful, and I imagine she is even more so with her sails up.

You could hear the bagpipes all around the waterfront...they were great.

This is the CSS Acadia - she was a former hydrographic and oceanographic research ship that was commissioned into the Royal Canadian Navy in 1917, where she did anti-submarine patrols. Currently she is part of the exhibits at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic.

I had the opportunity to stay on board a few years ago, and ever since, I've been calling her 'my boat', whenever I see her.

Theodore Too...he's always a friendly sight to see on the water.

The Captain of the Metro Transit ferry was enjoying the funnies while waiting to depart for the Dartmouth side of the harbour.

When he discovered that he was being photographed, he first did this, then peeked around from behind the paper (and of course I missed that shot...it was funny though!)

The Queen Mary II, the current Cunard flagship. More information can be found about her here

This is a monument honoring past and current members of the Canadian Navy. The base of it reads: The sailor statue representing those valiant young Canadians who served in both war and peace is symbolic of the thousands of sailors who were instrumental in the victory at sea and a fitting acknowledgment to those who continue to maintain the peace - the Atlantic Chief and Petty Officer's Association

sallybranwyn This is a great set. I always wondered what Halifax was like. I've read a couple of Howard Norman books that were set there and the place becomes a character of its own. Highly recommend reading him if you like Halifax.
