This is Boots Riley and me. The Coup performed at the Memorial Union earlier tonight. This is one of the pictures, I'll post more later. Unfortunately I did not get many pictures of the Coup performing. There was a huge crowd and it was hard to get pictures. Plus their show was so tight I just wanted to enjoy the music rather than pressure myself to be an unofficial photographer.
The concert was amazing. There were lots of opening groups, and a couple of featured MC's from the Madison area high schools. I was very impressed with these guys my age. They were really good! And more so their lyrics were conscious. Very inspiring seeing them perform and how seriously they take their craft.
Boots Riley is the nicest guy ever. I was a little nervous going up to him after their sound check, but he was extraordinarily friendly. You'd think that being such a big artist he would find it annoying to have people come up to him to say, "ohh I like your music so much...." but Mr. Riley was amazingly friendly and nice. Being a musician myself, I know that sound checks often are frustrating and being on the road is taxing in and of itself. It takes a truly feeling human being to endure and transcend the wear that a musician experiences on the road, then to be so giving and friendly. So thank you Boots Riley. You are an awesome guy.
