the nostalgia of wandering

2008.04.28
here i spend my days sitting on the balcony upstairs drinking acqua frizzante and doing my italian homework. here i also have spent my nights sitting on the ground because it was so crowded drinking il vino rosso della casa with company that has forgotten me.

a street i pass every day on the way home from italian or anywhere if i walk along the arno to via magenta as i usually do, past the american consulate which is the only place in florence i can think of that is always devoid of both traffic and people.

a corner of florence i saw for the first time last friday but for me embodies the side of the city i find most charming.

the clouds were full and white over the valdarno that day, the arno a cesspit of driftwood below the cascade. but this you can see.

san frediano, whose dome you can see here, is never open when i pass it. i want to go in but i don't know what is there, it isn't in my art history textbook unlike nearly every other church in florence.

i don't know how i'll be able to live without this place...
well, the same way i always have.
