Port of Newport Public Fishing Pier in South Beach

The Yaquina Bay Bridge, as seen from the southern side of the bay.

South Beach Marina

The bridge, with the fishing pier on the right.

A charter fishing boat on its way back in. If you enlarge the picture (click on it), you can see all the fishing poles in holders on the roof behind the "house."

What a great way to spend a Monday -- crabbing off the pier, in the sunshine, no less.

Coast Guard and Lincoln County Sheriff's Dept. boat have a little conference out on the water.

The dredge vessel, "The Yaquina" was out between the jetties the whole time I was taking photos. Every couple of years sand needs to be dredged from the channel and dumped on the sea floor further out to sea.

When I attended my 20-year high school reunion a couple of years ago, many people said, "Oh, you live in Newport? How great is that?"

Most of them had been here on a day like today, no doubt, and saw the beautiful Yaquina Bay, the bridge, the beach, etc.

It is beautiful here, especially on days like today. However, once you get used to the ... differentness of living on the coast, it's just like living in any other similarly-sized town. There's work, weather, cleaning the house, mowing the lawn, school, errands, shopping, etc. The beauty doesn't make all the mundane stuff go away.

Still, it is beautiful.

focussed it always looks far greener on other peoples front lawns than our own doesnt it? I have to say though, Newport really does look stunningly beautiful. I really love the feel of each of these shots...especially the tones in 7 and 16!
