This is Lily the mongrel girl when she was young. She was such a cutie, right? She has some really nice owners, and I think she really deserves them.

Over the past few months, the 18-year-old Lily had weakened a lot, and couldn't walk. Her owner then built her a DIY doggy wheelchair, so she could still go out for her daily walks. She tried to stop eating, but with the TLC given by her owners, she eventually turned better and ate again.
Lily passed away peacefully yesterday morning, and is now somewhere over the Rainbow Bridge.

The dog on top is Baba, and the black one at the bottom is Burrito. They have been roommates at the kennels since I first started working at the kennels...
Baba used to be a construction site dog, and was later rescued by HKDR, and has been with us ever since.

Baba, enjoying a run at the field near the HKDR kennels... She's so happy.
Quoting from Rachael L, one of our volunteers, 'At least she had a couple of extra years with us and I think she was quite content as long as she didn't cross paths with her arch rival Lena.'
One of the dogs that I had walked during my first few visits at the HKDR was Baba. I will always remember her funny, round body, as well as her funny face.
Baba left us in early August, and I never had a chance to say goodbye to her. I was still in Beijing when I received news of her death, and I nearly cried in front of my camp mates. She was found by the volunteers in her kennel suffering from bloat, and even an emergency operation couldn't save her...

This lovely baby is Pinky. He was left alone at home everyday for 14 hours before he came to us...
He's such a cutie... Who can resist such a nice, funny look? His pink nose reminds me of big boy Sun..

He's very friendly and affectionate, and doesn't mind being cuddled, he actually loves it...
Pinky left us today because of the many injuries on his belly, neck and feet. Perhaps some larger dogs attacked him at the kennels... I am pretty sad that even when we managed to save him from his ex-owner, we couldn't save him from our own dogs.

Clapton, although I didn't know him too well, but he looks so adorable in this picture.... He had a really sad story before he came to us. He was originally kept by an old lady. But when she died, he went to live at a truck park in the New Territories.
The poor boy suffered so much, and was in so much pain. It would be the best for him to go and end the suffering. He left us this morning.

This is Monty who left in May. He was so thin and was a huge ball of messy fur... Still he was such a cutie... Shih Tzus are always lovely dogs. Why would people do such a thing to him?

This blog entry is dedicated to Lily, Baba, Pinky, Clapton and Monty....
Over the past few months, these lovely mongrel friends had left us and went over to the Rainbow Bridge, away from the pain and suffering, but knowing that they have been loved by their wonderful volunteers, doggy friends, and for Lily's case, her loving owners.
Lily, Baba, Pinky, Clapton and Monty, we will all miss you.... Thanks for being with us, and may you rest in peace.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…

Aw so sorry to hear, hope ye and the pups are all okay.
My beloved Baba, such a lovely lady. She was the first dog I walked at HKDR. I will miss her forever. Whenever I came to her and said her name, she would rushed to me immediately. I will never forget the happy time being with her though it is short.
