#144 The alien-eater

2009.05.24

[Timon lepidus - Ocellated lizard or Jewelled lizard. La Herrería Forest, El Escorial - Madrid]

Here is thelargest lizard in Europe - It can measure 80 cm tip to tip. It's called ocellated because of the ocellus drawn on its skin: black circles with yellow spot inside. Males have blue ocellus on the sides and a really big head.

This lizard lives in dry lands, between bushes and shrubs, where he feeds on big insects caught between his powerful jaws. He is always willing to eat any alien who pass through its territory! He loves to take a nap
in rocky areas where the sun heats.
