#210 Burned childhood

2009.07.29
I would have liked to show a picture of my beautiful forests, but they're now a huge ball of fire, ash and smoke, which soon will becomes nothing.

This was the appearance of the sky at sunset yesterday. The sunbeams filtered through the smoke and ash.
Sorry for the quality, I took the picture with my mobile.

Yesterday, some brainless people started an arson in a wonderful forest where I used to play when I was a child. The fire has forced to evacuate 6 villages and have burnt more than 800 hectares, climbing a mountain pass of 30 kilometres long. 2 people have died, tens of houses have been razed. My grandparents live just 13 kilometres from the fire, which is not yet controlled. From their house, they can see the flames devouring the pine forests of the Regional Park of Sierra de Gredos.
More than 100 kilometres away, where I live, a huge cloud of smoke and ash covers the entire sky. The forests that fire is burning, were the home of one of the few pockets of Iberian ibex still living in freedom.

My childhood is burning. I won't walk with my children in the beautiful pine trees that looked after me in my infancy...
Why?
What do those brainless people earn with this fire?
We are all losers. All!

REasons:

* Burnt
*destroyed
*with habitation there now

But I still have a pinus forrest close..but I've afraid it wont also last for LOOONG...
It is a pity what those people do! here in portugal, and in the area I live there are alot of fire that burns alot of forrests!
will they tell me that all of them are natural?
thre was a time here that the fire burnt almost half of our pinus tree places!
People dont know how to preserve what is beautiful! It this a reason I have a shame of my country! There are places that is rare having a fire made by humans! and here there is!

JaCkYe A primeira foto é bonita, pena que o homem muitas vezes e a natureza outras vezes destruam as nossas florestas...

Julias365 I am so sad to hear this news.... this is such a tragedy, for you, for the forest, the creatures that live within it, and for coming generations..........
Julias365 · 2009-07-29: 12:22
Lynda How sad that these wonderrful places are destroyed by man, that people and animals are harmed. Makes no sense at all to do that.
Lynda · 2009-07-29: 12:29

Ivconcept · 2009-07-29: 12:30
smbunation I would love to believe that everything happens in a cycle of life and that this is all fitting, but when it comes to arson and destruction on purpose for no reason - this cannot be so.
smbunation · 2009-07-29: 12:46

Unchained Ruth, minha guerreira! Sei o que sente, pois me doi o coração todas as vezes que a natureza é destruida, por falta de civismo. Vi ontem no notíciário e pensei logo em ti!
Unchained · 2009-07-29: 13:41
catdad So sad for you and the other people in your country,a forest fire is never good for anyone or anything. Arson makes it even worse ! cd

tomie sad to read that bad news! is a pity all theses fires every summer...
tomie · 2009-07-29: 15:51
lookagain It's terrible, Ruth...very, very sad news. We usually deal with the threat of forest fires in Colorado all summer long. The firefighters stay very busy...and they do their best but often the result is tragic. Sometimes nature starts the fire....but when it's careless people it's totally unacceptable....like you said, everyone loses.
lookagain · 2009-07-29: 19:29
lynnsgallery2 I'm so sorry to read this Ruth...I hope your family is safe. If the people who did this lost one of their family members...maybe...just maybe they would think twice.
lynnsgallery2 · 2009-07-29: 20:38
Jarvo Very sad news Ruth. :-(
Jarvo · 2009-07-29: 21:57
bedazzled I am so sorry Ruth..I always see people throwing a burning cigarette out from their car without realizing that a small flicker can result into a massive fire..
bedazzled · 2009-07-29: 22:38
Nellinka It's so sad. I feel with you.
Nellinka · 2009-07-30: 01:42
firehorsecri It's a shame and criminal to set fire!! I've heard of the wood burnt around Madrid. Here in Italy is happening the same. Pyromaniac at work. They caused a catastrophic loss of cultivations, trees, century-old trees, parks... What a sadness and anger... I wish they just die in their stupid non-sense criminal killer fires!
firehorsecri · 2009-07-31: 08:18
firehorsecri P.S. Also humans and loads of animals and wildlife have died it's going on right now... Nice shots, Ruth...
firehorsecri · 2009-07-31: 08:20
