#305 Trick or treat!

2009.10.31

I live in a country where the majority of the people still has a very closed mind. In Spain, people think that only catholic celebrations and those which correspond to our traditions are welcome. And the saddest thing is that the majority of the people is very ignorant and doesn't know the origin of our traditions and of those that they call "foreign traditions".

I say this because I'm tired of hear people complaining because children want to cellebrate Halloween. What's wrong with this?
Children dress up and lose the fear to monsters, witches and the darkness, parents take lots of pictures and everybody have fun!

To those Spaniards who think that Halloween is a party imported from the United States, you should know something before talk. The word Halloween comes from the English expression "All Hallow's Eve", that means: eve of the Day of all the Saints.

The origin of Halloween is in Samhain's Celtic celebration (Celtic new year) and the christens celebration of All Saints' Day. The Irishes took this party to the United States and, from there, it returns now to Europe...
Deep down, everything is the same.

Trick or treat??
I love Halloween!!

SADHYA Well said Ruth. It is also said that this is the day when the interface between our living world and the world of the darkness/ spirit/ death is at its thinnest, and we can get a glimpse of what lies through the veil.As well as being a Christian tradition, it is also part of the Pagan beliefs and comes from before Christ. The church has tried to "tame" all those so called primitive beliefs, but they have a way of coming to the surface in interesting ways.
