#313 Vermilion soldiers

2009.11.08

[Vespa cabro - European hornet. La Herrería Forest, El Escorial - Madrid]

We always think of bees when we talk about organized and hard-working bugs... But what about wasps?
These nice hornets are very loyal and well trained.

They work for the queen (which can measure more than 4 cms!) and maintain discipline in every moment. They're like a little army that only attacks in case of danger or when someone is a threat for the nest...

They don't usually bite, but if some flutter around you, it's better to avoid wave one's arms about. Just keep calm and ask kindly the hornet to go away.
It works!
