Fun in the Murky Waters

A visit in Sichahai is a must if you ever landed in Beijing. There, you just ca't find a lake but there are a lot of hutongs and courtyard houses way back from ancient dynasties.
During the day, the lake is a sight of swimmers in skimpy trunks. They don't really mind how obscure the water is. While others are fishing nearby, some are soaping themselves and dive.

Around the lake, a lot of Beijingers take a plunge into the murky waters. Real dirty. But these people seem to find it therapeutic! :))

Around this lake, too, are mansions and old courtyard houses of people that made a difference in ancient, imperial China. Most of these houses are converted into museums.

But, Sichahai is not known for all the things above. Nowadays, it's a hub of red lights and a melting pot of hedonists at night. Hundreds of bars and cafes are circling the lake which can really be pretty crowded. Who doesn't love a sip of cappucino at Starbucks while looking at lovebirds in pedalled boats?
