Beijing Olympic Games: Day 7

2008.08.16
I am soooo pressured to post updates of the Olympic Games here in Beijing. Yesterday afternoon, Dani, my Spanish friend and I went to an Athletics event at The National Stadium or also called as the Bird's Nest which actually resembles like a toilet bowl than a nest at a far distance.

And oh, if you have an Olympic ticket, you can take the subway for FREE. :)

So, today, I'm gonna post pictures ON OUR WAY to the Stadium. I'm not gonna post everything what I saw yesterday in one post. Call it drama or rather suspense. ;)

Foremost, the weather yesterday was really good. Blue sky showed up and the sun showed with smiles. It was sunny, yes, but it was not hot.

PHOTO BELOW
When we were out of Line 10 subway, we need to transfer to Line 8 which is directly connected to the Olympic Park / Olympic Green. And yes, there was a sea of Nenderthals everywhere.....

Before one could enter Subway Line 8, he must go through the process of strict security inspection. And as usual, the queue was endless. ;)

Heads of people. Most of them have dandruffs. Really. Ask people who have been to China. :)) No offense.

These are the security tents where everyone passes through. Here, I lost my camera stand. :(( They won't let me in if I won't surrender it. That was an expensive thingy.. Even if my camera is a mini-canon, I use the stand for my personal cam whoring. I don't wanna bother people to take pictures for me. So, if you have an extra cam stand, send it to me. Right now. :)

Aside from the scanner, they also inspected my bag. They found a toothpaste which they told me to taste it; My lotion, which they told me to rub it on my arms; My chewing gum, which they told me to eat one. And my dental floss, which they told me to "try" it.

Now, you know what's inside my bag. :)) I'm embarrassed.

This is inside Line 8.

When we got out of the subway, this is what we saw. These people heading up to the National Stadium.

The DRUMS and McDonald's.

Recently-made courtyard houses in contrast with the mini-skyscrapers. ;)

The Bird's Nest at a far distance. Can u see the the Olympic Torch?

A little closer.

And yes, this is US. We were wearing the wigs since we were on the subway. Of course, people looked at us with amusing reactions. Chinese people were told to behave during the Olympic Games. A huge campaign about "How To Behave" before the Games began was all over Beijing.

And yeah, we were stopped A LOT OF TIMES. People wanted to take a picture with us.. Every ten (ok, twenty) steps we took, somebody would stop us asking us to pose with them. And to hold up the idea that "foreigners are crazy", Dani and I did a really funny poses with them. From scary to licking to the V sign (a common pose in China) poses, we did it all.

The sun began to set.

...and more people coming....

In one of the streets in the National Stadium.

Dani, pretending to hold the torch, proudly showing his ticket and more proud wearing the wig!

..and me with my country's flag. Damn it, we didn't even have a contender for the athletics events yesterday! Hahahahaha...

And yes, until now, we still haven't gotten any medals yet. :(((

I THINK, I wrongly displayed the flag!

Should I face execution? LOL....

(Take note of the couple posing in my background.)

This is the BIRD'S NEST. What do you think?
This is where the Opening Ceremonies was held last 8.8.08 / 8:08.

Isn't she a beauty at Sundown?

Dani and I posing.
Thanks to a stranger who took this foto.

Another foto of the Toilet. Ooopppsss, the Bird's Nest!

A closer look with the blue sky--the first blue sky during the Olympic season.

Complicated strokes of architecture?

On our way inside the grand structure.

Then, I stopped for a real close but side shot. ;)

Then, another shot.
Yeah, the glasses look like one of Sarah Faucet's!

Then, we reached Entrance A.

A web of complicated style?

These stairs are going to the Third Tier of the Stadium. That's our stairs. Yes, we had cheap tickets. :))

Ooopssss. It's not M stairs. We're on H Stairs.
This is the view as we walked around to find our stairs.

And inside / under those twirling bars.

In my next post, I'm gonna bring you inside the Bird's Nest.

This is Alain, reporting in photos from the land of the Dragons! Ciao! :))
