Day 1: Bangkok

2008.09.13
In my quest for a Thai breakfast around the hostel where I stayed in Silom, these are some of the food I tasted. Well, a piece or two of each dish.

Beef.

Eggs with Thai lemon grass in it.
Nice smell.

Tasted like a pancake, except that there's like a coco stuff in the middle.

Yeah, friend chicken. I'm such a chicken person.

Jim Thompson is an American architect who made / helped Thai silk known to the world. His house has become a museum with a really IMPRESSIVE collection of Chinese vase and wares, Buddha statues, paintings, wooden sculptures, etc...

His house is made up of teak wood and built to avoid flood which then was common in Bangkok before.

The shop where you can buy the finest Thai silk. Of course, the brand is named after Jim Thompson.

WAT PHO
This is where the Reclining Buddha is housed. It's an amazing golden statue that is really, really huge.

Thailand's first university was founded here. Even up today, there are monks giving lessons to young students.

This is where I had my lunch. What else, but, the Thai green curry. :)

WAT ARUN (Temple of Dawn)
Said to be the most beautiful Temple in the World.
The best time to see is at dawn and sunset.

The young monks at the pier waiting for the boat.

Last batch of young monks waiting for the ferry. Take mote of the novice on the right. He has a damn hot pink shoulder bag! I'm jealous!

When I was aboard the ferry, the sky just suddenly turned dak and gray.

mariaps Alain, what a beautiful collection of photos you've posted of your day. I love the perspectives of 9, 11, 21 and 27. 18 is fantastic because when you put yourself in the shot, it really gave an idea of the size of it. Great tour! I can't wait to see more. :)

dadlak Alain, thanks for the tour. My daughter would love to be there for the food...Thai is her favorite ethnic. Composition of #9 is so good. It's great to see you and the Buddha together...striking resemblance, lol. I also like 28 of the young monks waiting under the umbrella. Are they reading People magazine, lol?
