Angkor Wat and Bayon Temple

2008.09.16
Angkor Wat blew my heart, soul and mind away---to the world unknown to man it existed.

Nice introduction, huh? Quote me for that. ;)

All guidebooks and local people say that if you are visiting the Angkor, it isa MUST to see the sunrise. So, flock of tourist went there (a lotsa Japanese tourists) for the incredible sunrise.

The sky was like this---very promising and everybody was excited to see the sun.

But, then, suddenly, our excitement just went pffftttt when it rained.

The sun never came out until almost noon. However, still, it was not good weather. It was like rain, sky, rain, sky, rain, sky---that I had no choice but bought an umbrella for 6 dollars.

Grrrr......

This is the clearest shot of the Angkor Wat I took.

Brief Histor of the Angkor

ANGKOR literally means "Capital City"or "Holy City". In its modern usage, Angkor has come to refer to the capital city of the Khmer empire between 9th to 12th A.D.

The Angkor Wat represents the ancient Kmer (Cambodian) architecture, art and civilization.

There are thousands of Buddhists statues, big and small, and even the part of the story of the Mahabharata, an Indian epic, is being told in wall carvings all around the temple.

The ANGKOR WAT is more grand than the Forbidden City of China or the Taj Mahal of India.

Describing Angkor Wat as wonderful is lame excuse for people who pretend to be travelling just to get their passports stamped.

Angkor Wat is MAJESTIC.

ANGKOR WAT is magnificent!

ANGKOR WAT is a work of a genius!

ANGKOR WAT will totally, extremely hypnotize you to the glory what she was.

ANGKOR WAT is a mystery. It has endless mysteries.

ANGKOR WAT represents the pinnacle of spirituality.

ANGKOR WAT is more than awesome.

ANGKOR WAT is undescribable.

ANGKOR WAT is perfection---in its truest meaning.

ANGKOR WAT is superb and architecturally breathtaking!

ANGKOR WAT is grand!

ANGKOR WAT is a MUST-see place before WE all die. ;)

And yes, it's me---the fabulous! :))

And the famous WIG!

If you are planning a trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia and only plan to see TWO temple---it has to be the ANGKOR WAT and BAYON TEMPLE.

I went to a lot of temples yesterday but the weather sucked.

The giant stone faces in this temple have become one of the most stunning images of the Khmer art and architecture.

NOTE:

These are not just carved stones. They are carved not in a whole piece but in PIECES that looks like a jigzaw puzzle and FILED them UP together. No nails or cement or glue involved here. It's purely architecturally genius. (Well, to preserve these carved stones, FEW of these were actually connected to keep them from falling.)

So, from this photo onwards, take a look at each stoned faces and you'll be blown away, too!

See those stones filed up together? That's really an extraordinary architecture. It's an ambitious but brilliant style!

...and these are not tiny but gangantuan carvings.

One dollar of you want to take a photo with them.

Sssshhh... His Holiness is sleeping.

Tomorrow, I'll show you the temple where ngelina Jolie went to --- Lara Croft, the movie, remember?
