Theme: Where I Live Part II - Long Grove, Iowa

2008.04.22
Yesterday I left you gazing at the Long Grove water tower in the distance. Today, we have arrived. Long Grove was established in 1838. According to the 2000 census Long Grove had 597 inhabitants and 250 households. It's small town Iowa at it's finest.

There are very few businesses in Long Grove. We do have our own post office - a very small one. I think it is open to the public about one hour a week (or so it seems).

There is one small bank.

Of course there is a tavern!

And next to that is the Long Grove City Hall. According to the corner stone it was established May 1, 1907.

The Long Grove (all Volunteer) Fire Dept. was established 1916. The volunteers are notified of a fire by a siren that sounds.

Long Grove Community Center. This is where we vote and sometimes party. My daughter's wedding reception was held here

Long Grove Christian Church. There are other churches in surrounding areas but this is the only one actually in the town of Long Grove.

The elementary school. My youngest son attended pre-school and grades 1-6 here. My other 2 kids were in junior high and high school when we moved to the country. (There is a 10 yr difference between my youngest and oldest children).

I like this rock in front of the school.

A typical house you will find in Long Grove. Old and sometimes ornate.

~~~~~~~~~
That about sums up Long Grove, a very small town in Iowa. We are famous for our Strawberry Festival in early June. More on that later if I make it there.
No, I'm not skipping the stores....if you want to go shopping this is not the place to be...there are no stores.
photopoet I love small towns and your town looks like a great place to live. Not being a shopper no stores wouldn't bother me as long as there was a library around I'm set.
bamommy Kath you won't believe this but I don't even know how to get to Long Grove and I lived in Davenport for 18 years. Isn't that crazy. I know I've been there though. Great photos.
