Stomping Around in Stampe Lilac Gardens

2008.05.13
Once upon a time (today), a Controller, Billing Officer and I.T. Officer decided they needed to get away from the humdrum of working life and pack a lunch and take it to the Stampe Lilac Gardens. And there we ate it. And life was good.

The Billing Officer (B.O. for short) and the I.T. Officer also decided to practice their photography skills amidst all this color. We both have new cameras that need to be figured out. Practice, practice, practice

See what I mean by color? And if this was a "scratch and sniff" blog...well, you would be overwhelmed with the fragrance of lilacs. (Well, not exactly overwhelmed...it was a windy day and I think the fragrance was blowing away most of the time, but you get my drift...).

The I.T Officer (I.T.O.) promised the B.O. that she would only post pictures of her head. So here it is-her head. B.O. is also known as Queen911 and her version of today's events should be posted soon on her blog where you may also see my head. But I hope not. I really, really hope not. I don't want to dispel the shadowy mystery that surrounds me.

Lilacs come in a variety of colors. I like this two-toned one and have one like it at home.

Blue lilacs. My favorite color!

A lilac lilac.

A deeper purple.

Almost white.

Dark lilac lilacs.

Almost pink.

And then there were some weird trees...A siamese twin tree? Or split personality tree?

A really tangly looking tree. Controller, who never takes pictures, thought it was some kind of beech tree. I'll believe him because I don't know much about trees.

And I mean this is a tangly tree! (Looks like my hair on bad hair days- sometimes on good hair days).

The leaves were a beautiful blood red color. Almost like what you would expect to see in fall, not in spring.

And, who should appear in the midst of my picture taking, but a head...just a head...a bodyless head. I needed to practice my portrait skills so snapped away.

And then the Controller, B.O. and I.T.O. drove away and went back to work. That is not a fairy tale ending, I know. We should have been eaten by a wolf or something. That guy walking away is our C.F.O. He walks in the park almost every day and he walked by us. He could probably stand in for a wolf! He bites our heads off sometimes.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Stampe Lilac Garden, has the Quad Cities’ (Iowa) largest collection of lilacs. The City of Davenport, Iowa and the Davenport Horticultural Society dedicated the Stampe Lilac Garden in 1980 on behalf of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Stampe for their efforts in establishing and maintaining this outstanding horticultural area.
It is not named Stampe Garden because it is laid out in the shape of a postage stamp like some people seem to think, huh, Marsha!
Notice: no heads were harmed in the filming of this garden! But hundreds of photos were deleted because they were crap!
photopoet I did so enjoy the romp through the lilacs—which are magnificent and one of my favorites. The garden is beautiful as are your photos. You two are quite the pair. I bet you both laugh up a storm when you go on one of your forays.
