The Volunteer

2008.07.29

Volunteer: Botany A cultivated plant growing from self-sown or accidentally dropped seed.

This volunteer was found out in the flower bed in my front yard. I left it there to see what it would turn out to be. So far, I don't know. It doesn't look like anything I have grown before or am growing now. I currently have watermelons, cantaloupe, zuchinni, winter squash, gigantic pumpkins and pie pumpkins but this thing looks like none of those. Oh, and I have cucumbers too - but it's certainly not one of those!

I'll leave it until ripe (it pulls away from the vine) and open it then for my surprise.

snappy In my opinion it looks like a watermelon. But the flower looks like from a zucchini. Let us know!
