Just Loafing

My favorite food is bread. Today I made some. I haven't made any in a while. I've had this recipe for years.

This bread is great to use for grilled cheese.It's also great with soup.

When we used to supplement our income by selling veggies and dried flowers at farmers' market I also used to bake and sell about 100 loaves of this bread per week. Gone are the good ol' days.

Of course I grow the herbs for it!

This loaf just came out of the oven. Gotta run and slice into it before it cools



Herb Bread
Makes 1 Loaf

3/4 cup warm milk
2 Tbsp. bacon fat
2 Tbsp. sugar
1-1/2 tsp. salt
1 pkg yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1 egg
1/4 cup chives
2 Tbsp. parsley
1 tsp. oregano
3 - 3-1/2 cup flour

Heat 1st four ingredients and cool. Mix yeast and water. Add liquid, eggs and herbs to yeast. Stir in 2 cups flour. Add rest of flour. Knead. Let rise until double. Shape in round loaf and place in 9" pie pan. Let rise again for about 30 min. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 min. Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes.
