Streetwalking Wednesday

2008.10.08
Our bench where we sat, ate lunch, talked and took photos in Prospect Park, Bettendorf, IA. The park is located on a bluff overlooking the Mighty Mississippi; the Big Muddy. (The bottle wasn't ours).

Peeking through the trees - to the right of where we sat.

Travel by boat, car, or train - looking to the west.

Looking east down the river - Michael Row your boat ashore, Halleluiah!

Is he taking a picture of us? (Man down in front of us)

Looking across the Mississippi to Moline, IL- the grass is always greener on the other side.

Up the hill behind us to the north.
The sky really was this blue.

The river is deep and the river is wide, Halleluiah! Doesn't look it, though, does it?

Our streetwalking adventure on this beautiful day occurred at Prospect Park in Bettendorf, Iowa. See my friend's version of streetwalking in the same place (whenever she gets it posted).

The Mississippi River in our area of the Quad Cities, which consists of Davenport and Bettendorf, IA plus Moline and Rock Island, IL, flows east to west as opposed to its normal course north to south.

Prospect Park is a small neighborhood located on the western border of the Village of East Davenport. It runs along Mississippi Street from Eleventh Street down to River Drive and a block east along Prospect Drive and Prospect Terrace. The neighborhood was developed from 1895-1910, and is one of many Davenport neighborhoods at the turn of the century to focus around a park. Houses in Prospect Park are very large, and are set back on spacious lots. The houses are late Queen Anne style, Neoclassical, and Tudor Revival. The neighborhood contained many prominent figures, including contractors, physicians, and attorneys. The proximity and commanding view of the river kept this neighborhood a fashionable address long after the originally families had departed. Unlike similar west end and central neighborhoods, Prospect Park has retained mostly single family usage.--Wikipedia.

ladymacphisto We stay at a bed and breakfast right in this area of town- next to the bread factory- Fulton's Landing. I love visiting the village- the candy store and the original Isabelle Bloom studio. Your pictures all look a bit familiar to me. : )
