A Letter to my father who is innocent and in Jail
Dear Father, it’s been nearly 2 weeks since you’ve been arrested and we haven’t been able to talk to you ever since. Every day I contact mom with the hope to at least know where you are, but unfortunately my mother’s answer is always the same: “No news of your father.”. Everyday I’m worried. Thousands of questions cross my mind: Is he alright? Are they punishing him? When can I hear his voice? and other questions alike.
But today someone contacted us from court and made our worries worse. They said you have had allergic reaction to a medicine and they must look after you. The only hope I had these 2 weeks were that your wardens are your religious-brothers and they won’t hurt you since.
My dear father, we missed you the last 2 weeks… Why weren’t you beside your daughter on Father’s Day and why wasn’t your son, in a foreign country, able to hear your voice? On your wedding anniversary why weren’t you beside mom? Why were you in prison on your father’s death anniversary? Even grandfather sensed your empty space from above. This year, like my martyr uncle Sa’eed, you couldn’t go to your father’s resting place. Your absence made these 2 weeks feel like years for us.
Beloved father they at least didn’t let us talk to you on the day of Imam Ali’s birthday, Father’s day. Nothing is more ridiculous than a government which always preaches to be like Imam Ali’s throw you in jail and not let us talk to you. How can you compare the Justice of Imam Ali’s government and theirs?
Fatameh Abtahi has said that Mr. Abtahi hears “Allah-o-Akbar” chants at nights and it’s heartwarming to him. I hope you can hear the chants of your fellow patriots from where you are because I know these chants are the only medicine to heal your hundred-year-old pains.
If only you could talk to not only me but all of Iran. If only you could tell other prisoners’ children how their father’s feel. If only you could tell the mothers of those jailed children of their courageous acts and with utmost sorrow tell some of them not to wait for their Sohrab's.
I don’t know where I should go in this world and to which position in Iran should I complain about your raptors. Which friend of yours should I call. Today your friends are with you. I don’t know which son of God can look at your services to the people and the Islamic Republic and keep you in jail. From the moment of your capture I have been hoping I was in Iran. But I don’t know even if I was in Iran where would I look for you in my land. To which position and the man responsible should I have gone to and which one of them would have answered my cry for justice. I just know this: You are innocent and you are jailed today for the crimes of thinking and defending the Islamic Republic that you belive in and have revolted to make. Today the world is witnessed to your sacrifice for your country. Know this that you and your friends are victorious. The pillars of the Islamic Republic are on your shoulders and those of your friends. We won’t ever let these coup d’état planners, force Ahmadi Nejad’s order on my presious Iran.
