Anguis fragilis aka Slow worm

Actually I've known this buddy my whole life as a dangerous snake,
we had a saying in portuguese :

''Mordida de Licranço
não há cura ou descanço''

Which means:
''Slow worm bite
There is no cure or rest''

I've searched over the internet about this buddy, and I found out It is not a snake, but a lizard without legs.
And it feeds on slugs and some other insects.

Actually I've found no information about his poisonous bite. Does anyone know anything about this animal? or about if it is poisonous?

they are not poisonous at all Ricky during my school times my mum found regularly some in my trousers because we used them to scare girls in the school and sometimes I forgot them. They even do not bite. If you touch one not at their tail because they can loose it if they are in danger. But it does not grow completely again GKorts · 2010-08-30: 14:17

Well in the UK the slow worm is not poisonous, in fact I have sometimes handled them - I find them in the compost heap occasionally. Yes, they are a legless lizard and really rather lovely. SADHYA · 2010-09-01: 15:43
