What in the world happened to Marsha (Lookagain)? Part. I

2011.05.26

This time we have the pleasure to share with you our interview with Marsha (Lookagain).
Please, enjoy the interview and leave your comments below.

1. We know the reason why your username is '' lookagain'', but would you share it again to those that don't know?

I'm a retired teacher and the last few years of my career I taught high ability elementary school students. For a warm-up thinking lesson, I'd draw a simple shape such as a circle on the board and ask, "What's this?" The students would begin with answers like "a circle, a sphere, or a ball," but as I'd encourage them to "look again," they'd begin to generate many more unique and creative ideas….like the top of a bald man‘s head, for example! By the time we finished the activity they'd seen dozens of unique things in that simple round shape! When I took up photography as a hobby after retiring from teaching I could see how this same visual creative application could be made while searching for and shooting photographic images. So "lookagain" seemed appropriate when I chose a profile name for Photoblog!

2. We have noticed that your family usernames are quite ''strange'' and mysterious like: ''halfsorry'' , do they have any influence on yours?

"Halfsorry" is my older daughter's username here on PB (which she chose AFTER I chose mine, by the way ;). She doesn’t have much time to post here at PB anymore because she's much too busy with her other blog which has become quite popular. Any of you PBers who are into healthy, natural, organic, and "green," would be very interested! She's known in the blogosphere as Crunchy Betty and her blog's address is: www.crunchbetty.com Stop by....she'll appreciate the visit and maybe you'll get some great ideas for "clean and natural living," especially if you like to put "food on your face!"

3. Have you Always been From Colorado?
No, almost three years ago I moved to Colorado from the "Land of Oz," a fictional name for the state of Kansas which comes from the book, Wizard of Oz. Kansas stretches on for infinity with mile upon mile of wheat fields, dusty roads, small towns in which the tallest structure is a grain elevator, wind farms, cattle feed lots, and occasional rolling hills. I wish I'd been into photography when I lived there because I certainly would have appreciated its beauty much more! As a matter of fact, I might be the only person on earth who’d actually love to travel from the mountains of Colorado to the flatlands of central Kansas for a shooting vacation! I’d love to go back and photograph all the beautiful sights I missed while I was working every day and not yet into photography!

Oh, and by the way, speaking of the Land of Oz, my dog is named "Riley," not "Toto," and no, I don't have any ruby slippers!!

4. Do your family say ''What? are you taking another picture for photoblog?''

After three years of my photography and Photoblog addictions my family is now quite used to me lagging way behind, carefully considering every object and scene as a photo opportunity, taking a couple dozen (or more) shots of a single flower or landscape, and while driving occasionally shouting, "Stop the car - I see a shot!" I believe they've given up on trying to change me which is good because it was a waste of their time!

5. Have you ever Participated (we mean being in the coffin or something not just shooting) at the Coffin Racings on your town?
Haha....the annual Emma Crawford coffin race at the end of October is a huge event in Manitou Springs and thousands of people come to see it!. It's a photographer's dream because there are hundreds of people there expecting to get their picture taken so no worries about sneaking a shot! It's the kind of event that you can't believe it until you see it! Dozens of teams race down the street pushing coffins holding an "Emma Crawford” impersonator. So much fun and excitement! So far I've only shot the races, not participated and really, think I'd like to keep it that way! Those "coffins" on wheels don't look safe and I've seen more than one tip over!

6. Do you have funny stories about your strolling over the mountains? We know you do a lot of strolling there!
Strolling over the mountains - that sounds so lovely and relaxing! Actually, when you get on a steep, winding and rocky trail there's not much strolling but more like scrambling! However, it’s great exercise and how the best landscape views are found!

7. Have you ever thought of doing an exhibition of your gorgeous pictures?

Thanks for your kindness, but no, I really haven't thought about it much. Right now I just enjoy using my time to shoot, edit and post on PB. Also, I've begun to create photobooks for friends and family members and for my own enjoyment! If the opportunity for an exhibition ever arises I’d love to try it. After seeing the results of many PB friends’ photo exhibitions it seems to be a wonderful experience!

8. Living in a Place like colorado, Do you usually see alot of snakes? muskrats?

No, I've only seen one small snake while hiking and no muskrats. I have seen bears, foxes, beavers, coyotes, deer, elk, rabbits, squirrels, birds and insects. Last summer when my daughter was visiting she saw foxes by the back fence one evening and the next day a bear in the driveway and her observation was, “Mom, you live in a zoo!”

9. Are you not afraid of Mountain lions since they are in colorado?

Two animals I think about often while hiking are bears and mountain lions. We only have black bears in Colorado which are not usually as aggressive as brown or Grizzlies, but one still needs to be watchful. Mountain lions are essentially nocturnal and quite shy and don't usually bother adult humans, but again watchfulness is of the essence. I've seen many bears, but never a mountain lion and I don't really care to unless it‘s at a very great distance! In the town next to us people have had small pets taken from their yards by mountain lions….I hope they stay near that town and don’t come around here!

10. Do you believe in Big Foot?

I have never seen Big Foot or his tracks, but there have been numerous Big Foot sightings all around this area of Colorado over the years. Wow, come to think of it, would that ever be a great shot!! Come on, Big Foot…don’t be camera shy!! I’ll feed you a big steak or a chocolate cake if you let me take your picture!!
