Church on the Golden Hill

The Golden Hill is a very nice place in the center of Minsk. It is nice because it looks like a small island of silence in the loud and fidgety sea of the city. The Roman Catholic church of St Roche is a heart of the Golden Hill. It was erected in the late 14th century on the nearest St Trinity Hill and thus became the first Roman Catholic temple of Minsk. In 1809 the church was destroyed with fire. The Catholic community of Minsk built in 1864 a new church on the Golden Hill with the help of drawings of the 17th century. Nowadays, the church attracts pilgrims with its wonder-working statue of St Roche and concerts in the organ hall (the largest in Minsk).
