This Roman Catholic temple is situated in the centre of Minsk and known among local people simply as the Red Church. It was built in the early 20th century by the landlord Edward Vaynilovitch and named to the honor of saints of his son Symon and daughter Alena. During the Communist epoch they were going to ruin it “not to spoil the image of the modern square”. For one time, it was closed and used as a shelter for Belarusian movie makers. But people (and not all of them were Christian believers) defended it. Nowadays, the Cathedral of St Simon and Helen is seen as an old attraction of Minsk.
