The name of the Berezina means “the Birch river”. It brings its blue water from Northern and Central Belarus to the Dnepr and then to the Black Sea. Barysau is situated anywhere on the central part of its bed. For many centuries the Berezina was used by people as a suitable road between deep Belarusian forests. In 1812 in several kilometers to the north from the city Russians sunk a half of the Napoleonic Army. Nowadays, the river is not navigable for trading vessels, as well as it is not an obstacle. But it is still picturesque.
