The ???? Family

I bought this photograph at a sale, there were two them - the black and white and the sepia. The b/w had been cleaned up. I love all the expressions and clothes as well as the house. What do you think the story is.

DancingDolphin First, regarding the photos themselves: it's my understanding that the ORIGINAL photos were not sepia, they are just old b/w photos that have changed color over the years. I thought that was quite interesting as I usually think of 'old' photos as being sepia! So the b/w, 'cleaned up' version is likely closer to what the original would have been.

Second: What a great find! Mom & dad and their 9 kids would be my guess. They obviously had a pretty large house!

Keryl Hmmm, interesting how far apart they are. What is in Mama's lap? This is a great find and I could spend all the day speculating! It's a lovely 3-story home for sure!

urmysunshine We live on 2nd street, having moved there when Papa bought the delivery business back before I was even born. They knew the man was coming to town with his big camera, so Papa immediately made sure to have him come to our house. Mama told us all to get into our Sunday best, although Travis complained because it was already so hot outside (he's the one on the far right.) It was my job to make sure Matthew sat sit and quiet (we're in the far left sitting on the grass.) It's a good thing Papa had it taken when he did, because the next year Dottie got married to Sam Brewster down the way (she's standing next to Travis) and Abby died the following spring from the influenza (she's sitting on Mamas right.) Mama made sure the family Bible was in the picture, although you can't see it very well in the photograph.

livelovelaugh What a great find. Funny how they all had serious faces on back then. I love urmysunshine's story. :)
