The Awakening at National Harbor... used to be at Hain's Point. I was there in December after a big blizzard and got some shots of it in the snow but the immediate area was roped off. This time the grounds were open for a closer view. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Awakening_%28sculpture%29

The aluminum sculpture is about 100 feet long and comprised of 5 pieces buried in the ground. The arm is about 17 feet tall. It is a really unusual piece, a bit disturbing, a bit surprising. People seem to enjoy it and want to touch it, sit on it, climb up on it...I think it looked better in the old location, which was an open field with some nearby trees in a parkland setting. But, more people are probably seeing it in this location.

It scares the sh*t out of me! It is fantastic photography (esp 4, nice perspective), but the sculpture looks real odd to me, The limbs look disproportionately large and the expression on the face looks like the statue is constipated(if that is possible) soubhagya · 2010-01-29: 22:47
