Mattawoman Creek- End of Winter

This is a 'raft' of American Coots... interesting birds with red eyes, and unusual feet (I didn't get a good shot of their feet, but if you look up American Coot Feet you can see images on google :).

Closer view of the coots, red eyes, white beak with black spot at the end... the origin of 'old coot'. Coots also make up about 80% of the diet of eagles. They let us paddle very very near them, they didn't want to fly...

The coots are interesting but I'm thrilled that the Herons are there. I don't think we'll see them for another month. The best, though, are the shots of Kristy, Wendy and You. I think I'll get cleaning our kayaks and maybe in a few weeks we can do this too.
