Last of the State Fair

2008.10.22
This was the only sketch artist I saw at the fair.

Took this one for my son, he loves it.

How many screwdrivers can you possibly stick in the back of a pickup? Believe me, I haven't a clue.

Looks like this might be from the original 1936 construction.

Same building, other end.

I think they were selling fountains with this display.

A palm tree 20 feet tall in Dallas. Will wonders never cease?

I didn't have time for it to turn into a carriage with driver and horses so I shot it as it was.

This was one of the birds at the "Birds of Prey" show. I think it was from Africa.

Tough swimning in that grass.

Following the light.

And there were quite a few people around the booth buying them.

Fountains and buildings. There were a lot of them.

What you would want one of these masks for I don't know but they had it for sale in one of the booths.

Made from T-shitr fronts. Some of them we sell where I work.

These are the last posts from the Great State Fair of Texas for this year. I hope you enjoyed them. I shot a couple of thousand photos, most of which wouldn't be of much interest to anyone but me. It's the largest state fair in the world and a lot of fun. It runs from late September to the middle of October. If your're there next year and see some old guy shooting photos of everything that moves or sits still, it might just be me.

terryl #4 & #5 - 1936? Are you sure it's not 1736? Whenever it's from I don't think I'd be trusting my bulk to it any time soon. But doesn't old wood and old stone/bricks just call out to be photographed? Generations of old silver based B&W photographers cut their teeth doing texture, contrast and tone exercised on old building, fences, trees and such.

Again, you've posted an amazing range of subjects and colours.

busybee36 What a great variety of subjects in these two sets. So many interesting things to photograph at an event like this, you did a good job!

thelearnedfoot Love the "bird of prey" shot ... The bird looks prehistoric, almost like a pterodacytl.

terryl Hmmm, No.9, the bird of prey - possibly a Goliath Heron (see this image

loriprice hey, new to the website and just browsing through. I am not a photographer just a picture taker that has never had time to learn a lot of details. Had a few days on my hands and thought I might pursue something new. Any tips for the time handicapped? You seem like my kind of photographer; one you snaps everything! Great photos by the way!
