Bald Cypress at Whiterock

2009.11.03
Comparatively, not a lot of color on this one.

These are leaves from the above tree.

This one was on the west side of the lake in full sun and had much better color.

These are the seed pods that are all over the tree.

Bald Cypress have a heavy production of the seed pods every three to five years. I don't know where these fall in the cycle.

These are what are called Cypress knees. They grow vertically from the roots of the tree all around it.

This is why you don't go walking in the cypress woods after dark without a good light.

This one showed some nice color.

These Bald Cypress are found all around Whiterock Lake and in much of the Dallas area. Unlike some Cypress they loose their leaves in winter and go bald. There is one hazard. You can see why you really don't want to go walking in a Bald Cypress area after dark without a good light. Knees.

DancingDolphin "cypress knees"! Fascinating! I must confess at first I thought it was a bunch of bunnies! ;-)
