Fort Taylor, Key West, Florida

2012.02.24

This is the first place we went off the tour we took of Key West. It was about a quarter mile walk from the trolly stop but well worth it.

This is the first part of the fort we saw along the walkway. The mote went about half way around the fort. The mote was not connected to any other water source so it really was green with alge.

Same wall, different angle.

This is one of the ammo rooms below some of the gun emplacements.

I'm not sure whether Janie is going to load a cannon or throw it at me for taking her photo.

View across the parade ground with our ship with the blue fin in the background. Shot from the top of the wall.
pixel
Parade ground from ground level. The openings in the background are gun emplacements.

Looking down the barrel of one of the cannons at the window that it fired through. The window was about three feet high and 18-24 inches wide.
pixel
A friend of ours, Tommy, standing at the cannon for size reference.
pixel
Same cannon from the side. It was about 10 feet long.

The lineup of cannons along the firing wall.
pixel
Small chapel near the firing line.

Leaving the fort.

DancingDolphin Nice... I don't know this place. Have you been out to the fort on the Dry Tortugas? Another great fort there.
