Celebrating Mother's Day

2012.05.13
pixel
The scene of the crime, celebration that is. You may have seen this one before but nothing represents Joe T's better than the chips, dip, and a margarita that will knock the wind out of you. For you Yankees, no more than one. Texans get two or three.
pixel
Special Fly By for Janie. Not really but it was a nice DC3 that flew over at almost treetop level. This was shot at 60mm.
pixel
This one he was directly overhead. Again at 60mm.

We are gathered here for the love of musica or so the song by Big and Rich says. Not really, it's the food.
pixel
Player one, Annette our daughter in law. The strange look is explained by where the hot sauce she flicked off her finger landed.
pixel
Player two, Russell with hot sauce in the eye. You don't want Joe T's hot sauce in your eye. Makes you want to take your eyeball out. No shot of player four, me. I was taking the photos silly.
pixel
And more musica from a different mariachi band. I've never seen so many of them as today.
pixel
The subject of the celebration, Janie. Snuck this shot without here knowing.
pixel
Caught in the act. That is she caught me taking the photo.

As we were leaving we passed by one of the several bar stations serving up at least four good drinks although I can't figure out for the life of me why people want a lime stuck in a beer bottle. Ruins the taste of the beer. But what can I say I'm a purist when it comes to beer. Although the margaritas were tempting, when driving I drink tea.
pixel
Waiting on a pit stop as we were leaving. We stopped by another of the bar stations to watch.
pixel
True to the name, Fiesta Garden, there were flowers all over the place. Here are three.

A little history, Joe T's opened around 1932, I started going around 1962, Janie and I around 1972. When I started it would seat around 40 people. It now seats 3500 at one time and today it was full and people were rotating in and out as soon as a table became available.
With no alcohol a meal runs about $12 with tea per person. With alcohol around $20 or more a person. Here's the kicker.....It's an ALL CASH business. No credit cards, but they have an ATM It was full for the hour or so we were there and in talking to a waiter had been most of the day. You do the math, it's mind boggling but it's the most fun place to eat that we have ever found.

DancingDolphin Well I KNOW the eye with hot sauce probably wasn't supposed to be 'funny' but from a distance it was! Great set... looks like a fun Mother's Day!
