We traveled to Louisana for a short vacation making our first stop the town of New Iberia. It is the setting of a series of books by James Lee Burke that we both enjoy. The town has named one of it's streets for him.

This is the restored plantation house and it is beautiful. It is called "Shadows on Bayou Teche. The plantation spread out in both directions from this point up and down the Bayou. We toured the plantation and learned quite a bit about the town and plantation life.

We stayed in this bed and breakfast just down and across the street from Shadows. We were directly across the street from the police station which plays a major part in the books.

This old oak tree with Spanish moss hanging from the limbs that touch the ground in several places. Main street near downtown is filled with the old trees.

By the way, it rained. It rained every day we were in Louisana. Sometimes we got soaked, sometimes we didn't. One thing it did do was intensify the colors, although I did need a Storm Cover to keep my camera day at times. It had just finished raining when I took the next two shots.

James Lee Burke writes a series of books about the fictional life of Det. Dave Robicheaux of the New Iberia, La. Sheriff's office. We have on several occasions visited the locations of our favorite authors. It's really unique to visit or eat at the places mentioned in these books. We stayed a day and half in New Iberia learning a little of the history of the town and soaking up the beauty of the parish. Hope you enjoy the photos and next time you travel, look up the location of a book you have read. It will bring the stories to life in a way you can't imagine.
