We were in Melaka

2008.08.19
Calvin and Chloe are having their school break and off we went to the Historical City of Melaka for a day trip. It has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 7 July 2008.

First stop: Christ Church Melaka, a 256-year old Anglican Church that is still conducting its church services every Sunday

A row of colourful beca (trishaws) overlooking the Stadhuys, the city hall erected by the Dutch during their rule from 1641 - 1824.

River Melaka

Next stop: Jonker Street, a narrow street with quaint old shophouses, most of them already converted into very interesting little shops. It is like walking in a mall alfresco style.

On Jonker Street.

Ruins of the St. Paul's Church, erected 1521.

A'famosa - a fort erected during the Portuguese's rule (1511-1641). I seriously thought it was so much bigger until I revisited it today.

Then we went up the Menara Taming Sari (The Taming Sari Tower) - it goes up to 80m high, overlooking the entire city of Melaka.

Chloe, Calvin and my mom - all ready? Up we go!

A scene from the revolving tower.

Perfect timing! We caught the topless bus and went on a city-round-trip ride. It was superb!

Here we go!

Having fun?

Coming back to The Stadhuys.

Here's to an excellent day trip in one of the best place in Malaysia!
