Our two-day sojourn to Uruguay was short but sweet. For some reason, I had visions in my mind of this country being like a slice of Italy from the 1930s, with mobsters and shifty men in overcoats, but it was far more laidback than that.
We caught the ferry from Buenos Aires and one hour later arrived in the sweet little seaside town of Colonia del Sacramento. Unfortunately we were greeted with a huge downpour of rain (we were sans-umbrellas) which meant we huddled inside an internet cafe for two of the four hours we were there. But when the sky cleared a little we walked to the town centre, walked along the coast and ate some pizza.
We caught the 2-hour coach to Montevideo and checked into our hostel (Posada del Sur, if anyone is looking for a good place to stay in Montevideo), which was a really nice old building with 30-foot ceilings.
Hmmm... not a great deal happened in the two days we were in Uruguay so that's about it. But it was worth the visit.

Best thing about Montevideo:
The food. Actually better than Buenos Aires. Finally, a city that appreciates seafood!

suinampolp Piper, you can use Picasa to shrink if your computer has it. Also, it looks like you've some dust in your lens
